Policing is an information business.
Yet all too often, critical information that could keep the public safe simply doesn’t reach officers on the street or staff at the station.
So how do we unlock the potential of digital, data and tech in UK policing and give officers and staff the support they need?
Especially when even back in 2019, 50% of 4,000 police officers surveyed said they couldn’t even rely on the information on their force’s own systems.1 What’s that stat risen to today?
Exploring tech adoption in UK policing
To get some answers, the Police Foundation did a deep dive into tech adoption within policing in the UK.
Their report, ‘The Power of Information’, covers academic research and independent analyses of policing IT programmes and digital strategies.
It also reflects the opinions of 22 stakeholders like local chief information officers, national police leaders, Home Office officials and industry representatives.
They make some pretty substantial recommendations :
A national strategy for interoperability
Investment in modern, scalable technology
Cultural change at the top
Taken together, these proposals are dedicated
to unlocking the potential of digital, data, and
technology throughout UK policing.
